Learn everything you need to know about men’s nipples, an article by PULSE Clinic.
A man’s nipples are developed while they are still embryos in their mother’s womb, starting with the first X chromosome, which is the same for females. This has led to the saying that every man was once a woman. As they grow, the second chromosome starts to function and change from the X chromosome to the Y chromosome in males. This also leads to changes in various organs that can indicate gender through ultrasound, such as the nipples, breasts, and genitalia.
Additionally, a man's nipples can be sexually stimulating because they are quite sensitive to touch. Research has found that nipple stimulation in men may increase sexual arousal by up to 52%.
Men's nipples are not used for breastfeeding permanently like women's. However, it is not entirely impossible. Men can produce milk under certain conditions if there are hormonal changes involving prolactin, leading to a condition similar to galactorrhea in women. Several factors can cause this, including:
Due to hormones and chromosomes that determine sex, there may be little difference in nipples or bodies during infancy. However, as puberty begins and hormones start to affect the tissue, women's breasts may grow larger, whereas men's bodies generally remain unchanged.
However, in cases of health conditions such as breast cancer, both men and women can be affected. Therefore, it is essential to regularly check your health, including the area around the nipples and breasts, for any abnormalities. The first noticeable signs of breast cancer may include:
If you experience any abnormalities beyond those mentioned, or if your symptoms worsen, you should consult a specialist immediately for prompt treatment.

One prominent feature of the human body is the breast, but it's the nipples that often stand out and protrude through clothing. This is especially noticeable in men who don't wear an undershirt. Some people may experience nipples that become visibly protruded, leading to embarrassment and questions about why we have nipples at all.
Nipples are present in both genders. It would be weird not to have them, as they are a part of our body. But does everyone know enough about nipples?
Have you ever wondered why some people have flat or inverted nipples or even dark nipples? In reality, the nipple, or areola, is located in the center of the breast and connects to the areola, which is the circular area surrounding the nipple. Therefore, people with lighter skin will have a lighter areola but might still have darker nipples, while people with dark skin can have lighter nipples.
People were somehow led to believe that sucking on nipples for too much can darken their color. In reality, the color of the nipples is determined by ethnicity. For example, someone with pink nipples will still have pink nipples even after breastfeeding ten children.
However, going back nearly 400 years, Jane Sharp wrote a midwifery manual in 1671, describing how nipple color could indicate health. When doctors and nurses assessed a woman's health, they would examine the color of her nipples.
Nipples would turn a fresh strawberry red after sexual intercourse, which was considered a sign of good natural health, but with age, they would change to a darker color.
There was a peculiar theory that nipple color was similar to lip color, but this theory has been debunked. Scientific reasoning shows that nipple color can change with temperature and age (with nipples darkening as one gets older).
Research using MRI scans has found that nipples are highly sensitive to touch and can trigger pleasurable sensations in the brain. Therefore, actions such as pinching, squeezing, twisting, and pulling nipples, similar to what is seen in adult films, might be enjoyable for some, but not everyone may like this in real life. Nipple stimulation should be done gently and softly.
Research has found that nipple stimulation can enhance arousal by up to 82% for women and 52% for men during sexual activities. Many couples like it when their partner arouses them by sucking their nipple during sex. At the same time, not everybody likes this method. The best way is to talk to your partner about their sexual preferences.
In 2011, research found that arousing by sucking the nipple alone can make a person reach their orgasm even though the percentage isn’t that high… it’s doable. Licking, sucking, or even biting can make a person cum. Winks winks.
Supernumerary nipples, also known as accessory nipples, can occur in both men and women. This condition involves having more than two nipples—sometimes three, four, five, or even seven. These extra nipples may appear as small protrusions of tissue or, in some cases, can be functional like a normal nipple, capable of producing milk. Therefore, it's not unusual to encounter people with more than one nipple; it’s essentially an additional feature.
This might be shocking to many, but it is a real case that was reported in the newspaper "Khao Sod." Mr. Pibulwat Yangsuk, 59 years old, described his breast cancer symptoms as follows:
“I had cancer that developed in my second breast about three months before I went for surgery. At the time, I didn’t pay much attention to it and thought it was probably just a normal cyst. However, I noticed it was strange because the lump was growing and the nipple was indented as if it was being pulled unusually. When the doctor performed the surgery, they removed the nipple as well. The doctor said that only 1 in 1000 men get breast cancer; most men get liver cancer or prostate cancer, with 99% of women having breast cancer. I don't know why I got breast cancer; none of my relatives have had cancer. Now, I have to take hormone therapy medication, specifically estrogen, for up to 5 years.”
Breast cancer symptoms typically start with a hard lump under the right nipple, which is not painful and resembles a tumor or cyst. It may gradually become painful later. If you have these symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible to get a tissue sample tested and receive prompt treatment.
Having hair around the nipples is quite normal and can happen to anyone, as the nipple area has hair follicles. However, if it is bothersome or affects self-confidence, it can be managed by removing the hair through methods such as plucking, waxing, or laser hair removal.
We might think that nipples are all the same, but in reality, nipples can differ in size, color, and location. In some people, the nipples may be positioned closer to the armpit than usual. Some nipples may protrude, while others may be flat or inverted.
