This piece was inspired by the 1985 top 40 hit by Murray Head, ”One Night in Bangkok.” The song was actually banned in Thailand due to the lyrics focusing on Bangkok's legendary nightlife while supposedly denigrating Buddhism. Even so, it served as inspiration for this drawing depicting a nightclub where a dancing ”go go boy” is cozying up to a patron. To me, it begs the question - who has the power in this scenario? Is it the handsome younger man, because he possesses both youth and beauty? Or is it the older gentleman in the expensive suit, denoting status and wealth?
