About The Artist:
Cheksant Gangakate is a Thai-American who was born in Bangkok but was based in the US for nearly two decades before returning. He has lived, studied and worked in Texas, Nebraska and San Francisco and holds a BFA in Fine Art for a decade, and later an MFA. Gangakate gained a number of awards and recognitions while in the US. His paintings typically have an unconventional texture, build up with mixed mediaof encaustic paint and strings. His investigations in the issue of socio-cultural, globalization, and metaphysics, later he has begun to embrace a variety of methods, exploring the idea of Under Erasure. His works are processed based with experimentationsof the visual language. Gangakate currently holds an Assistant Professorship, a full-time lecturer for the Communication Design International program at King Mongkutts University of Technology Thonburi. Gangakate’s most recent work is a series MAIZECONOMIC, consisting of over 70 pieces of artwork. The work investigates the phenomenon of deforestation in the northern part of Thailand.
