Don’t worry! We understand that getting an STD test might sound intimidating. STD testing is just like any other doctor’s visit. Our staff will help guide you through the process (services in multiple languages available for our foreign patients) to ensure a smooth experience.

1. You can book an online appointment or visit a PULSE branch near you for a walk-in.
2. Register at the reception, and if needed, consult with the doctor.
3. Collect the test sample with our nurses. (Blood drawing, finger prick, or swab on the area of testing.)
4. Receive your results. Some tests only take less than half an hour!

How are Rapid STD Tests Done?

STD testing is a breeze! It’s quick, easy, and usually painless. It can be done in a few different ways. One way is to pee into a cup. Another way is to rub the inside of your mouth or throat with a soft swab. Lastly, there’s a blood test where your nurse or doctor takes blood from your arm or does a quick finger prick.

Rapid tests are conducted by searching for a specific indicator in the sample to determine the possibility of infection. For instance, rapid antibody tests detect an enzyme produced by the body to combat the virus. The body’s response to the infection serves as the target we seek in the rapid test.

How is PCR STD Test Done?

What Are the Common STIs?

The most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or infections (STIs) include bacterial infections like: chlamydia, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, and syphilis, and viral infections like: HPV and herpes.

Who Should Get STD Tests

• Everyone aged 13-64 should get tested for HIV every year.
• Women under 25 should also get tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia every year.
• Women aged 25 and older who have risk factors should also get tested for these diseases.
• Pregnant people should get tested for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C early in pregnancy, and they should get tested again as needed. People who are at risk should also get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea early in pregnancy, and they should get tested again as needed.
• Gay or bisexual men and men who have sex with men should get tested for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea at least once a year. If they have multiple or anonymous partners, they should get tested more often. They should also get tested for HIV at least once a year, and they should get tested more often (like every 3-6 months) if they need to.
• If you live with HIV, you should get tested for hepatitis C at least once a year.
• If you share injection drug equipment, you should get tested for HIV at least once a year.
• If you’re having oral or anal sex, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about getting tested for throat and rectal infections.

• If you’ve had unprotected sex (oral, vaginal, or anal), even just once without a condom, you should get tested.
• If you have a new sexual partner, it’s a good idea to get tested before and after you start the relationship.
• If you have many partners or have casual sex, you should get tested every 3–6 months.
• If you notice symptoms like burning when you pee, strange discharge, sores, bumps, or rashes on your genitals, or pain during sex, or in your pelvis or lower belly, see a doctor right away.
• If your partner tests positive for an STD or has symptoms, you should get tested right away and again after the recommended time.
• If you’re taking PrEP, you should get a full STD test every 3 months.
• If you just want to be sure, regular testing is important for staying healthy and can help avoid problems.

How Often Should Most People Test?
