Get HIV Treatment at PULSE Clinic

  • If you’ve already had HIV positive test results, don't panic! Schedule an appointment with PULSE Clinic. Bring your test results to your visit. Our doctor will check if you need another test to confirm the HIV infection, which might involve blood samples. Once HIV is confirmed, you might need additional tests to figure out the best treatment for you.
  • If you haven’t had any STD tests before but are worried that you might have an infectionSchedule an appointment with PULSE Clinic. Our doctor will chat with you about your risk factors and sexual history. This helps us understand your risks and order the right tests. We offer both rapid tests and PCR28 tests that cover other STDs.
    • If the test results are negative, our doctor might suggest starting PrEP to lower your chances of getting infected in the future. When taken as prescribed, PrEP can reduce the risk of HIV infection by 99%.
    • If the test results are positive, you might need more tests. HIV medication isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, so your doctor will figure out the best medication for you.

Our Services: Comprehensive HIV Care Services Offered by PULSE Clinic and Pharmacy

STD Testing and Counseling

Our HIV clinics offer confidential and anonymous testing using rapid, blood, and self-testing kits. Pre-test counseling explains the process, risks, and benefits, while post-test counseling provides support based on results. PULSE Clinic in Bangkok is the first private clinic to offer comprehensive 28 PCR testing for 28 sexually transmitted infections caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

HIV Prevention Services

Our HIV clinics offer crucial HIV prevention services, including education and counseling on safe sex practices, condom use, and harm reduction strategies. We provide a wide range of Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to high-risk individuals before or after exposure. PrEP refills are available for local and international patients on our clinics or online.

Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for HIV Treatment

ART is the foundation of HIV treatment, and HIV clinics offer various antiretroviral medications. We conduct laboratory tests and create personalized treatment plans. Regular monitoring of viral load and CD4 cell count helps determine treatment effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.

Opportunistic Infection Management for People Living with HIV

HIV weakens the immune system, making people more susceptible to infections like tuberculosis, pneumonia, and sexually transmitted diseases. Our clinics offer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, as well as vaccinations to protect against certain conditions.

HIV Care and Support

HIV clinics provide ongoing care and support to individuals living with HIV. This includes regular check-ups, treatment adherence monitoring, medication side effects management, and addressing health concerns.

Mental Health & Wellness

Living with HIV can affect mental well-being. HIV clinics provide counseling and therapy to help individuals cope with emotional challenges, manage stress, and improve their quality of life.

HIV Treatment: What is Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a mix of medicines that fight HIV, a virus that wreaks havoc on CD4 cells, which are essential for our immune system. While ART can’t cure HIV, it does wonders in keeping the virus levels in check. This allows our bodies to make more CD4 cells and stay healthy.

ART medicines use different ways to stop HIV from sneaking into cells and making copies of itself. By combining two to four medicines, each working its magic, ART reduces the virus’s levels (called the viral load) in our bodies. This combo therapy is more effective and less likely to fail. If the viral load is low enough, blood tests might not even pick up HIV.

When Should I Start Antiretroviral Therapy?

If you have HIV, you should start taking ART as soon as possible. Even if your CD4 counts are high, studies show that starting treatment early is usually the best way to manage the virus. HIV attacks your immune system by overwhelming your defenses, making you more susceptible to other health problems. A lesser amount of HIV in your system means your body will have an easier time dealing with the virus, which also means you will be less likely to have a health complication that comes with HIV. Starting ART sooner will give you more chance that your HIV infection won't develop to the stage that causes serious harm to your health.

How Long Do You Need to Stay on Antiretroviral Therapy?

You’ll need to take antiretroviral medications for life. Regularly missing doses can cause the virus to multiply and become harder to treat. Studies show that missed doses of ART increase the risk of lower T-cell counts and higher viral load, which would mean the HIV virus will start replicating itself in your system, then get dangerous to your health again, medication resistance, which would require stronger medication in order to stay at the previous undetectable level, and life-threatening infections that come from a weaker immune system.

HIV treatments nowadays are much less intimidating, usually only involve taking one pill per day and going to schedule check-up once in a while. Talk to your doctor if you are worried about the lifelong treatment or feeling like you want to stop the medicine.

How Effective is Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for Treating HIV?

ART is super effective when you take it consistently and correctly. Studies show that over 90% of people who follow their ART meds get HIV levels so low they can’t be detected within a year. If you start ART right away and keep taking it, you can live as long as someone without HIV. Without treatment, people with HIV usually live 8 to 10 years.

It’s important to know that ART doesn’t completely get rid of HIV from your body. Instead, it focuses on the viruses that are actively entering your cells and making more copies. When HIV is inside your cells and not making more copies, these medications can’t see it. ART can effectively stop HIV from reproducing, bringing its levels so low that blood tests can no longer detect it. But if you stop ART when you reach undetectable levels, the dormant virus can wake up and start making more copies again. This reactivation can make it harder to treat the virus if it happens.

What Tests Do I Need When Coming for an HIV Check Up?

There are a few tests you might need during your visits to HIV clinics to help make sure you're healthy and your treatment is working properly. Here are some tests you might get when you came in for an appointment:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC) with CD4 count
  • HIV Viral load test
  • Serum creatinine test
  • ALT (SGPT) test for liver function evaluation
  • Urinalysis
  • Syphilis screening
  • Hepatitis B/C screening

However, these are just a few examples of the tests you might receive. HIV treatments can vary from person to person because they are typically tailored to each individual’s specific needs and recovery progress. The doctor will determine the appropriate tests and medication based on your medical history and test results. Your medication regimen and test results may differ from those of others living with HIV.

How Often Do I Need to Come to the Clinic for CD4 and Viral Load Test?

Generally, we suggest checking every 3-6 months, but the doctor would be the one deciding how often you should come in for a check up. How often do you need a doctor's appointment is based on your situation. So this might be different for each person. People early in their treatment might need to come in more often for a careful monitor, as doctors need to make sure the treatment you're getting is effective enough to reduce your viral load to the safe level. People who have been on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for a long time might need to come in once or twice a year as their HIV situation is stabled. This is to make sure you're healthy and happy with your treatment.
