The most convenient way to travel is by flying from Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi/BKK) to Ko Samui. This is the fastest and easiest option due to the close proximity of Ko Samui to Koh Phangan.
However, Ko Samui Airport is served exclusively by Bangkok Airways, which often results in higher ticket prices, particularly during peak seasons. Once you arrive in Ko Samui, you'll need to transfer to a pier and take a ferry to Koh Phangan.
Alternatively, flying to Surat Thani is a cheaper option, but it requires more travel time to reach Koh Phangan. For both routes, you can buy integrated tickets, where the tour operator ensures all connections are seamless.
Most flights to Surat Thani depart from Bangkok's domestic airport, Don Mueang (DMK). If you arrive at the international airport, you can take a free shuttle bus between the 2 airports, provided you have an onwards flight ticket. For added comfort or convenience, you can also book a private or shared transfer instead of waiting for the next shuttle bus.
The most budget-friendly option is to take a bus or train to Surat Thani. Buses depart from Bangkok at 6:00 PM, and you'll arrive in Koh Phangan around noon the following day. You can buy tickets for the trip here. Multiple bus operators are available, offering various schedules and levels of comfort. Even during peak seasons, seats may still be available on short notice. If you prefer to travel by train, it’s advisable to book your tickets well in advance.
Since Koh Phangan does not have an airport, you must travel there by boat or ferry. The crossing takes approximately 3.5 hours from Surat Thani and about 30 to 60 minutes from Ko Samui.

For budget travellers, flying to Surat Thani Airport can be a cost-effective option. From the airport, tour operators provide convenient integrated tickets. These include a bus transfer from the airport to the ferry pier, followed by a ferry ride to Koh Phangan. To ensure a smooth experience, tour operators give you a colour-coded sticker and guide you through the process, so you don't accidentally board the wrong boat or end up on the wrong island.

If you are already in Ko Samui, you have 2 transportation options to reach Koh Phangan: ferry rides and speedboats. Ferries take longer but offer a more comfortable ride, particularly if the sea is choppy.
For those planning to attend the Full Moon Party, taking a direct ferry or speedboat to Haad Rin is the most convenient choice. Alternatively, ferries are also available to Thong Sala, Koh Phangan's main town. From there, you can take a taxi for a 30-minute ride to Haad Rin.
If you're staying in Ko Samui and only planning a short visit to Koh Phangan, consider purchasing an integrated ticket from a reliable tour operator. This typically includes hotel pick-up on Ko Samui, transfer to the speedboat, the crossing to Koh Phangan, and the return trip back to your hotel. Speedboats operate every hour, making it a flexible and convenient option.
If you're staying in Ko Samui and only plan to visit for the night, the most convenient option is to buy an all-inclusive ticket from a reputable tour operator. This package typically includes hotel pickup in Ko Samui, transfer to the speedboat, the journey to Koh Phangan, and the return trip back to your hotel in Ko Samui. Speedboats operate hourly.

The Full Moon Party is held every month on the night of, before, or after the full moon. If a Buddhist holiday falls on the same day, the gathering is postponed to the next available day.
Note: The Full Moon Party dates above reflect the days of the Full Moon Parties and not the actual Full Phase of the Moon. This is because several of Thailand's Buddhist holidays coincide with the Full Moon cycle, which prohibits the festival from being held on the same day.
The finest outfits to wear for a Full Moon Party in Thailand are ones that are comfy and contrast with the weather. Actually, the party is placed directly on the beach, so dress in light, breezy apparel such as tank tops, shorts, skirts, and flip-flops or sandals.
You may want to bring a light jacket or warm clothing because it becomes chilly during the night. Remember to wear sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from the heat of the sun during the day. Bring your swimwear and towel if you plan on swimming or participating in other water activities. Finally, some beverages and party supplies might stain your clothes, so avoid wearing anything that is readily ruined.
