“Nhà Hoang is a journey towards self-healing. The idea primitively came from the creator's childhood fascination with horror movies, and the “haunted” houses in his hometown Da Lat city. During the making of the film, a connection between horror and queer expressions was discovered, specifically society’s impacts on the issues of stigma, discrimination, and alienation within our queer community. The work also reflects his experience with panic attacks during the COVID quarantine, and the effort to “regain breath” during one of the episodes. Lastly, the transformative “death & rebirth” themes of the film hope to show one's courage to demand liberation, and to create their own light at the end of the tunnel.”
