“This work is deeply personal and speaks to the intristic link between sexual & mental health. As a self-portrait painted of a body always under the scrutinity of sex, my sexuality, and my own internal processes, my vulnerability is exposed. My own anxieties and chemical imbalances have profoundly impacted my sexual health over the years. Incorporating medical packets, and using symbolic items to layer my background grew in me a feeling of being more empowered. As a queer, bipolar woman, it has taken time to come to a place of acceptance. I feel proud now to present this queer, chemically-imbalanced body, though the use deep symbolism; layers upon layers and vulnerability.”
