Specimen Type: Endocervix/cervix

  • Supplies: Aptima Unisex Swab Collection Kit

  • Collection Instructions:
    1. Use the Aptima Unisex Swab Collection Kit for specimen collection.
    2. Use the cleaning swab (white shaft) to remove excess mucus from the endocervix/cervix and discard it.
    3. Insert the second swab (blue shaft) 1 to 1.5 cm into the endocervical canal, rotate gently for 30 seconds, avoiding contact with the vaginal wall.
    4. Place the blue shaft swab into the transport tube provided in the collection kit.
    5. Snap off the swab at the score line to fit it into the closed tube.
    6. Securely cap the tube, label it with the patient's full name and collection date/time.
    7. Store the swab container at 2 to 30 degrees C (preferably refrigerated) for up to 60 days. For longer storage, freeze at -20 to -70 degrees C for an additional 90 days.

  • Supplies: Aptima Multitest Swab Collection Kit 
  • Container/Tube: Aptima Multitest Swab
  • Specimen Volume: Swab
  • Collection Instructions:
    1. Use the Aptima Multitest Swab Collection Kit for specimen collection.
    2. Insert the swab (pink shaft) about 5 cm past the introitus, rotate gently for 30 seconds.
    3. Place the swab into the transport tube provided in the collection kit. Snap off the swab at the score line to fit it into the closed tube.
    4. Securely cap the tube, label it with the patient's full name and collection date/time.
    5. Store the swab container at 2 to 30 degrees C (preferably refrigerated) for up to 60 days. For longer storage, freeze at -20 to -70 degrees C for an additional 90 days.

Specimen Type: Urethra (Male patients only)

  • Supplies: Aptima Unisex Swab Collection Kit

  • Collection Instructions:
    1. Use the Aptima Unisex Swab Collection Kit for specimen collection.
    2. Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to collection.
    3. Insert the swab (blue shaft) 2 to 4 cm into the urethra with a rotating motion.
    4. Rotate the swab gently at least 1 full rotation, ensuring contact with all urethral surfaces, and allow it to remain inserted for 2 to 3 seconds.
    5. Place the swab in the transport tube provided in the collection kit. Snap off the swab at the score line to fit it into the closed tube.
    6. Securely cap the tube, label it with the patient's full name and collection date/time.
    7. Store the swab container at 2 to 30 degrees C (preferably refrigerated) for up to 60 days. For longer storage, freeze at -20 to -70 degrees C for an additional 90 days.

Specimen Type: Urine

  • Supplies: Aptima Urine Transport Tube 
  • Container/Tube: Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube
  • Specimen Volume: 15 to 20 mL
  • Collection Instructions:
    1. Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
    2. Collect the first portion of random voided urine (first part of the stream) into a sterile, plastic, preservative-free container.
    3. Within 24 hours, transfer 2 mL of urine into the Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube using the provided disposable pipette. Ensure the fluid level is between the black fill lines on the tube.
    4. Label the tube with the patient's full name and collection date/time.
    5. Store the urine specimen transport container at 2 to 30 degrees C (preferably refrigerated) for up to 30 days. For longer storage, freeze at -20 to -70 degrees C for an additional 90 days.

Specimen Type: Penile/meatal

  • Supplies: Aptima Multitest Swab Collection Kit 
  • Container/Tube: Aptima Multitest Swab
  • Specimen Volume: Swab
  • Collection Instructions:
    1. Use the Aptima Multitest Swab Collection Kit for specimen collection.
    2. Roll the swab (pink shaft) just at the tip or outside the opening of the penis to ensure adequate sampling.
    3. Immediately place the swab into the collection tube.
    4. Break the swab shaft at the score line and recap the tube securely.
    5. Label the tube with the patient's full name and collection date/time.
    6. Store the swab container at 2 to 30 degrees C (preferably refrigerated) for up to 60 days. For longer storage, freeze at -20 to -70 degrees C for an additional 90 days.
