PULSE CITY GUIDE: WAT CHALONG GUIDE

Wat Chalong, often known as Chalong Temple (officially called as Wat Chai Thararam), is Phuket's most famous and frequently-visited Buddhist temple. Built around 1837, Wat Chalong is definitely Phuket’s one of the must-see temples other than Big Buddha. Most Thais and foreign visitors who want to experience Thai religiosity will make merit at the center temple by offering lotus flowers and a little piece of gold paper to the monks' sculptures inside the big temple.

A dozen little shops on the temple side provide a variety of souvenirs and tourist items. The shops selling holy products can also be found outside the temple grounds, close to the main gate. This is where you can score items with symbolism or mythological significance. Way to keep a memory of Thailand!

On some days, there are funfairs offering a lot of food, popular Thai games, major stage performances. This provides a perfect opportunity for tourists to have a good time at the amusement, as well as take some good photos featuring Thailand’s culture.

Wat Chalong's tallest structure is a 60-meter-tall stupa called ‘chedi’ that houses a bone piece of the Great Buddha. The temple's walls and ceilings are adorned with beautiful artwork recalling the most important steps in Buddha's life. There are also enormous golden statues on the levels of the hall.

For your next visit to Phuket, it would be good to not only experience the undeniably awesome beach life but also the enriching mythological and religious culture of the country.
