Experience the unique world of French photographer Claude Estèbe
Sweet Waste is a photographic book by Claude Estèbe. It's a collection of captivating photos of dolls arranged and photographed in different manners mirroring humans. Dolls have no souls nor minds but prejudices turn people indifferent too. With a heart so cold, sometimes we're as indifferent as a plastic figure, even towards something like cruelty. Free of human norms, a photograph of a doll may be how the truth unfolds.
Estèbe is a French artist born in Dunkirk in 1959. He is working with photography and was a resident at French Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and received a Louis Roederer fellowship. Formerly an engineer in computer science and a doctor in Japanese studies, he also worked regularly as an expert for the Guimet Museum and French National Library and curated exhibitions in France, the USA, Thailand, and Japan. His publications include “Les Derniers Samourais” (Marval, 2001), “Le crépuscule des geishas” (Marval, 2002), “Yokohama Shashin” (Yellowkorner, 2014) and contributions in books about Japanese photography (like Tatouages du Monde flottant in 2023).
