Why we all should be "Allergic to Racism." Learn about its impact and how PULSE promotes inclusivity through awareness and community engagement.
The term “racism” is often misunderstood. According to the Oxford Dictionary, it refers to “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s race is more superior than the other.” However, this definition oversimplifies a multifaceted issue.
Key elements like discrimination and racial superiority are not always clear-cut. Perspectives on these ideas often shift over time, influenced by evolving social contexts and new ways of thinking. Sadly, racism manifests in structural, institutional, interpersonal, and internalized forms.
FIRST OF ALL, WHO ISN’T? AT PULSE Clinic, we believe that everybody should be allergic to racism. The harm it has done in the past to the present within and between communities, and how it perpetuates inequality and undermines social cohesion is frightening. Racism only creates division, fosters hatred, and leads to systemic injustices that affect growth, education, employment, and health.
Embracing diversity enriches our societies, promotes understanding, and drives progress. Being “allergic to racism” means that, at PULSE Clinic, we are actively rejecting it and working towards a more inclusive, equitable world for everybody, regardless of race, age, and gender.
Institutions play a major role in maintaining racism, including schools, the legal system, the media, and various organizations. These institutions, along with history, give more power to certain groups in shaping their country. In many places, the dominant group has primarily created society's structure, often leaving minority populations out of this process.
As we’ve explored how history and institutions contribute to racial disadvantages, however, the most important way they intersect is by creating a power imbalance based on race. Conversely, when a dominant racial group employs specific language or perpetuates stereotypes about another race that lacks equivalent historical and institutional power, that behavior is termed "racism."
It's important to always remember that racism extends beyond language. Racist stereotypes can profoundly affect various aspects of someone’s life and can greatly impact their job prospects and housing opportunities.
We’ve decided to create our “ALLERGIC TO RACISM” phrase t-shirt because we believe it will create visibility for the problem of racism in many, many ways!
You can purchase your ALLERGIC TO RACISM t-shirt here
Wearing the shirt will prompt discussions about racism, its impact, and the need for change, encouraging people to engage with the topic more deeply.
The “allergic to racism” phrase itself is catchy and provocative, making it easier for people to notice and remember, thus spreading awareness about racism and the importance of actively opposing it.
The shirt serves as a visible statement of support for marginalized communities, signaling that the wearer stands against racism and promotes inclusivity. Hell, yeah!
By making a bold statement, the shirt challenges people to reflect on their own attitudes and behaviors regarding race, potentially inspiring them to take action.
At PULSE Clinic, we came up with an enterprise called ‘PULSE Social Enterprise’, an enterprise that is an entrepreneurial organization that innovates to solve problems. It includes nonprofit and for-profit ventures and invests at least 80% of its profit into community well-being and social development.
We designed our “Allergic to Racism” t-shirts in hopes that it will motivate others to become more involved in anti-racist efforts, whether through education, advocacy, or participation in community events.
Plus, parts of the sales revenue will go to PULSE Social Enterprise to support PULSE Scholarships, special packages, and promotions for students and underprivileged people of all sexes, genders, and nationalities, as well as job opportunities.

PULSE Social Enterprise was founded by Dr. Deyn Natthakhet Yaemim, a proud gay Thai polymath who is a medical doctor, artist, inventor, and designer. After experiencing discrimination and stigmatizing treatment as a patient in various healthcare settings worldwide, he felt that painful healthcare is both unnecessary and preventable. Driven by this realization, Dr. Deyn aimed to create a better alternative to the care he encountered at government and NGO clinics.
When Dr. Deyn launched the clinic, he faced challenges with government regulations that hindered its operation. Recognizing the need for better data management, he developed the PULSE Information Service System (PISS). He began collaborating with universities, sharing his expertise on HIV at international conferences.
PULSE CLINIC provides comprehensive services for travel medicine, sexual health, and preventive care to everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, or political views. Over the past eight years, PULSE has pioneered online-to-offline services, including in-person counseling, lab testing, treatment, home visits, and telemedicine, serving patients from over 130 countries.
Dr. Deyn also started his career as an artist. While learning by himself how to paint, he offers fellow artists worldwide to come and stay at his apartments and PULSE Residences through the PULSE Artist in Residences program and offers opportunities for global artists to tell their stories by exhibiting their works at PULSE GALLERY.
